Spring Valley Family Tree Farm

Annette and Paul Brusven of Spring Valley Family Tree Farm greeting a visitor

Just east of Troy, ID, there are 29 acres full of Christmas trees, pumpkins, and produce. Owners Annette and Paul Brusven purchased the property in 2004, planted their first trees in 2005, and made their first sale in 2012. Both came from agricultural backgrounds with shared farming ambitions.

The operation has expanded beyond tree farming. They now manage 1,000+ trees annually, a market garden, an orchard, and a pumpkin patch. Recognizing visitor enthusiasm during December visits, the Brusvens developed additional fall activities. Their signature event is a pumpkin hunt — pumpkins are hidden among 10 acres of Christmas trees, with supplementary activities including train rides, hay bale mazes, and face painting.

The farm faced significant challenges, including a drought that destroyed 90% of one harvest. They subsequently installed farm-wide irrigation and have adopted organic practices without pesticides. The Brusvens emphasize their community-focused approach, regularly participating in farmers markets and offering educational field trips for children about pumpkin varieties and fall traditions.

Products are distributed through Moscow Co-op, local retailers in Kendrick and Troy, their gift shop featuring 50-60 local vendors, and happydaylocal.com. The farm functions as an agritourism destination offering Christmas tree selection, pumpkin patches, and market garden shopping.
